Personal statement
I am a hard working photography student who is determined to make a change in the media industry no matter how little it may be.
Photography has always been important to me because I believe that words can get lost in the mind and doesn't really stay with people but photography gives me the chance to translate those lost words and create something that may stay with individuals forever. I do believe that I have come a long way in learning new skills in media, I have achieved good grades and my final project received amazing feedback when it was on display. That was one of my best photography outcomes as not only did the pictures come out the way I wanted it to, but it had a meaning and that's what I believe photography should be about. The message behind the photos, and I believe I succeeded in achieving that.
At the beginning of the year, I had limited technical skills such as editing and knowledge of usage of software, for example; I did not really know how to use photoshop at the beginning of this course, so in order to overcome that I ensured that every day I was familiarising myself with the software and continuously having pictures ready to edit. I would watch youtube videos in order to know how to use the tools. However, I do believe I can improve my editing skills even more and that's by using photoshop a lot. This was also evident in my final project as i do believe my editing could of been improved by ensuring that the lighting of the pictures were accurate for example; ensure that the brightness, contrast and saturation are put to a certain percentage for my pictures to come out clear and perfect.
During my media course, i have learnt how to use my photography skills which would help me a lot in day to day basis, as well as knowing how to use software such as abode, photoshop, youtube, blogger etc. During my time in Turkey, I used these skills and the utilities there to ensure I took pictures of villages, properties for good causes such as giving these images to the people I took pictures of i.e properties, so they can use. Photography gives me the opportunity to use my skills to benefit not just myself but others around me, thus, this course would be a learning journey for me and not just what I want to do as a career.
I have various hobbies such as cooking, reading, doing sports, these hobbies do correlate with photography because these hobbies give me an insight of types of photography sectors one can go into and therefore taking photos whilst doing these hobbies shows the different types of shots I would need to create to ensure best quality pictures. I am constantly trying to develop my skills and aim to not let my disability get in the way of it. I am always trying to develop my editing skills at college and at home, making sure I am well aware of the tools. Lastly, my top-notch organisational skills and most specifically my communication skills helps me be the ideal student needed for photography as i am always up for learning new projects, people, knowledge that would not only help me now but would benefit me in my career for the future.
